Jones: We're going to rip into the Springboks

2018-05-18 21:46

Cape Town - England coach Eddie Jones wants his team to go for the kill and sweep the series 3-0 in next month's tour to South Africa.

England head to South Africa following a miserable end to the Six Nations when they lost successive matches to Scotland, France and Grand Slam champions Ireland.

England have yet to win a series in South Africa, with their last Test victory against the Springboks on South African soil coming in Bloemfontein in 2000.

Jones' side have been struck with injuries, but the Australian believes that as underdogs, they have nothing to lose.

"The bare minimum is to play well," Jones told SkySports.

"I want to win 3-0. No English side has ever won a series in South Africa so it's a great opportunity for us.

"We're missing 22 top players so everyone's saying we can't win, we're in disarray, we're a shambles. That suits the English underdog mentality," said the former Stormers coach.

"We're going to go over there and rip in."

The first Test between the Springboks and England is scheduled for Ellis Park in Johannesburg on June 9, followed by Tests in Bloemfontein (Free State Stadium, June 16) and Cape Town (Newlands, June 23).
