Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced cash rewards of Rs 10 lakh each for Bolangir and Kandhamal district police over the recent successful anti-Maoist operations.
He said the rewards are over and above the cash award being given to the police engaged in anti-Maoist operations.
Stating that the Left Wing Extremism situation in the state was well under control, Patnaik said: Apart from this, the police officers and the staff would be felicitated.
He also congratulated Bolangir and Kandhamal district police and SOG (special operation group) jawans for their efforts in combating Maoists.
Earlier, after the successful anti-Maoist operations, Patnaik had called upon the Left Wing Extremists to lay down arms and join the mainstream.
The announcement came days after seven Maoists were killed in separate encounters with security personnel in Kandhamal and Bolangir districts.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had congratulated Patnaik over Odisha Polices success in anti-Maoist operations.
Chief Secretary A P Padhi, Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan, Director General of Police R P Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Asit Tripathy and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
