According to a DNA report, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has set one-way toll charges between Rs 250 and Rs 380 for different category vehicles, which is around Rs 19.8 per km.

In case of light commercial vehicles, the toll charged between Bandra and Versova has been set at Rs 380, which is around Rs 30 per km.

Toll will be collected for 28 years, which will be used to repay the loan taken for construction of the sea link. The project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 7,000 crore. As of now, MSRDC will fund the project with loans from domestic and international banks.

The levy of toll will make the project financially viable, MSRDC officials told the paper.

Over 49,000 vehicles are expected to use the Bandra-Versova Sea Link daily once its operational. The MSRDC aims to connect south Mumbai to the western suburbs through a series of tunnels, sea links and reclaimed roads. The project is expected to be completed by 2020.

Pre-construction activity under the project commenced recently.

While the government received clearances of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and environment from the Centre in 2013, the Maharashtra state cabinet committee on infrastructure (SCCI) cleared the project in 2009.
