At $199, special weekend fares will be available for one-way at the time of high season and $179 at the time of low season in a one-year trial the government expects that it will increase the visitor number to the holiday town.
On A320 aircraft, in Perth-Broome route, Qantas will offer the discounted weekend fares, operating once a day, from Friday through to Sunday.
The affordable tickets will be made possible by utilizing larger aircraft on the route, making complete use of the spare flying time on weekends and support from the WA government.
Andrew Parker, the Qantas group executive of government, industry and internal affairs explained that the airline would evaluate the uptake and efficiency after the 12 month trial.
To quote him, “this is a new opportunity that makes good use of aircraft that would otherwise be on the ground over the weekend. It will help us deliver great value for travellers, stimulating tourism and driving new business opportunities for Broome and the Kimberley region. We’ll be marketing the new flights to encourage people to take advantage of them and to see what a beautiful place Broome is to visit.”
Tourism Minister Paul Pappalia explained that the deal would witness 29,400 discounted seats available over the year.
“The aim of this initiative is to provide affordable fares throughout the year to help stimulate leisure travel to Broome and the Kimberley,” he said.
