In Rock Hill, South Carolina, Dylan Allen drove in four runs and the Flames (28-24, 16-10 Big South) took over third place in the conference standings by thrashing the Eagles (24-28, 15-11), 11-2, at Winthrop Ballpark.

Allen (3 for 4) clubbed a three-run homer in the fourth inning to cap a nine-run surge in a three-inning span. The Flames scored four times in the second to chase starter Zach Peek and then scored five more times against Cody Whitten in the third and fourth innings.

Peek (5-5) and Whitten, both Jefferson Forest products, combined to allow nine runs (eight earned) on five hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Cam Locklear (2 for 5) hit a two-run homer in the third inning. Jonathan Embry, Brandon Rohrer and Ben Highfill each had two hits for LU.

LU starter Noah Skirrow allowed one run on one hit with seven strikeouts in four innings. Zack Brockman threw three scoreless innings.

Cale Gibson went 3 for 4 with a fourth-inning RBI double for WU.

Some game times announced for UVa, Tech games

The Atlantic Coast Conference on Friday announced start times for a handful of games for both Virginia and Virginia Tech.

The Cavaliers’ season opens against Richmond at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Scott Stadium. On Sept. 15, the Cavs host Ohio at 3 p.m.

Both of those games will be shown on the ACC Network Extra, which can be viewed on the WatchESPN app or on ESPN3.com.

Also announced was a 7:30 p.m. start for Virginia's home game with Pittsburgh on Friday, Nov. 2. That game will be shown on ESPN2.

Virginia's Week 2 game time at Indiana will be announced at a later date by The Big Ten and its broadcasting partners.

Virginia Tech’s Sept. 8 game at home against William & Mary will be at 2 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. The game against East Carolina in Lane Stadium on Sept. 15 will be a 12:20 p.m. kickoff, televised on the ACC's network channels.

The Hokies’ Labor Day night game at Florida State on Sept. 3 previously had been announced as an 8 p.m. start on ESPN.

UVa adds center, forward for 2018-19 season

Virginia coach Tony Bennett announced Friday the Cavaliers have added center Francisco Caffaro and forward Braxton Key for the 2018-19 season.

Caffaro, of Argentina, signed a National Letter of Intent, while Key signed a financial aid agreement and is transferring to Virginia after playing two seasons at the University of Alabama from 2016 to 2018.

The 7-foot, 233-pound Caffaro is a graduate of the National Basketball Association’s Global Academy. He spent two years with the program in Canberra, Australia, and has represented Argentina four times in FIBA tournaments at the national team level.

The 6-foot-8, 225-pound Key averaged 7.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 26 games for Alabama in 2017-18. He missed the first 10 games of the season with a knee injury and scored in double figures in eight contests as the Crimson Tide reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

In 2016-17, Key was named to the All-SEC Freshman team after averaging 12 points and 5.7 rebounds in 34 games.
