Houston's KHOU wades through what they've been able to verify about the Santa Fe High School shooting and what's just rumor. USA TODAY
Rockets guard Chris Paul didn't want to discuss the NBA playoffs without first sharing his thoughts about Friday's school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas, near Houston.
“First and foremost, aside from the playoffs going on, which is minor compared to what is taking place down in Santa Fe,” Paul said per the Houston Chronicle. “Our prayers going out to the victims and the families having to deal with that situation...
"This is minor compared to what those people are dealing with.”
A law enforcement official, who was not authorized to comment publicly, told USA TODAY that nine students and one adult were killed at Santa Fe High School, and a 17-year-old suspect was in custody.
Paul and the Rockets are preparing for Sunday's Game 3 against the Golden State Warriors in Oakland. The Rockets tied the Western Conference finals with Wednesday's win in Houston.
Paul added that something must be done about school shootings.
“It’s scary that’s becoming a norm here," the 33-year-old said. "We got to do something about it. Yeah, I can’t imagine something like that taking place with my kids.”
