Ganjam BJP Mahila Suraksha Yatra from May 21

Brahmapur: The BJP Mahila Morcha, Ganjam unit would join the Morcha’s Statewide 11-day Mahila Surakha Yatra on May 21 and 22. The Yatra, which began began on Thursday to protest sexual assaults on girls and women, would reach Ganjam on May 21, informed BJP district president Kanhu Charan Pati. Among others, BJP State secretary Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, State observer Ashok Mishra and Mahila Morcha district president Banaja Panda were present. The yatra would start from Kandhuni Devi Temple in Surada constituency and move to Chhatrapur, Gopalpur and Brahmapur.

Dengue Day observed in Brahmapur

Brahmapur: The National Dengue Day was observed here at the Ganjam District Headquarters Hospital here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of ZP President Subash Chandra Behera. Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore, CDMO Dr Sadanand Mishra, DPHO Dr Himanshubala Patnaik, ADPHO FW Dr V Sarojini Debi and ADPHO VBD Dr R Jagdish Patnaik attended as guests. Rathore said the BeMC would make all its efforts to tackle the disease. Within seven days, the BeMC would also hold awareness programmes in the city, he added.

B’pur Sishu Mandir foundation course concludes

Brahmapur: The Saraswati Sishu Vidya Mandir, Neelakantha Nagar observed its closing ceremony of the 45-day Plus-two foundation course here on Tuesday. More than 500 students from across the State participated in the course. School Principal S Mohan Rao gave the welcome address. Sishu Mandir Headmaster Uma Madhav Mohanty spoke about the objective of the programme. Managing committee advisor Narayan Panda, members Rabindra Jena, Bhima Sethi and Pranati Samal felicitated the outgoing students. Plus-two section Vice-Principal Subrat Kumar Panigrahi offered a vote of thanks.  

Taekwondo meet: Subarnapur’s Ahesas selected

Sonepur: Ahesas Hota of Birmaharajpur of Subarnapur district has been selected for the World Taekwondo Championships being held at Rupandehi in Nepal from May 17 to 24. Six players and two coaches would represent India in the meet including Ahesas from Odisha. Aehsas would participate in senior 54 kg class. He bagged two gold medals in a national-level taekwondo meet and was selected for the competition. Birmaharajpur MLA Padmanav Behera, block Chairman Santosh Bhoi, district Collector Dasirathi Satpathy, State taekwondo association president Manmohan Bhanj, district taekwondo association president Rabindra Hota, Jugal Kishore Mishra and Ranjit Ratha wished him all success.

Bajaj Allianz Life clocks growth rate of 38% in FY

Bhubaneswar: The Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company Ltd reported a stellar growth of 38 per cent on individual rated new business premium for FY 2017-18, said company chief agency officer Manish Sangal in a Press meet held here on Thursday. On total new business premium too, the company grew at a much faster pace at 29 per cent as against the industry growth of 11 per cent, he added. Sangal also said the company saw its market share increase to 2.2 per cent in FY 2017-18 as compared to 1.9 per cent in FY 2016-17. Sangal said the company is committed to further strengthen its presence in the State in the new financial year.
