4 youth harass boxer, thrashed

2 arrested; manhunt on for rest

Four youth who allegedly passed lewd remarks and tried to harass a boxer in Nihal Vihar on Wednesday night were thrashed by her, the police said on Thursday.

They said that two of the accused have been arrested and a manhunt has been launched to nab the remaining youth.

“Two of the accused have been arrested and were sent to jail on Thursday morning,” said a police officer.

The incident happened while the boxer was on her way back home.

Accused confronted

The police said the victim was walking on the road with her boxing coach after a practice session when two men on bike started passing lewd remarks directed at her. When the woman confronted the accused, they allegedly called two more friends to the spot. Following this, a scuffle began between the accused and the boxer.

Though her coach was present at the spot, the woman took on the four accused herself. Locals simply watched as the woman fought her attackers.

FIR registered

“Acting on the complainant filed by the woman, we have registered a first information report against four [accused] under Sections 341 [punishment for wrongful restraint], 354 [assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty], 509 [word, gesture or act intended to insult] and 34 [acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention] of the Indian Penal Code,” said a senior police officer.
