A plane with more than 100 passengers on board crashed shortly after takeoff from Havana, state media reported Friday.

The Cubana flight, a Boeing 737, had 104 passengers on board and was headed to Holguin from the country's capital, according to Prensa Latina.

Images from the crash site showed smoldering pieces of the plane in a wooded area. The number of injuries or fatalities was not immediately clear.

The head of Cuba's aviation authority told Prensa Latina that the aircraft belonged to Damojh, a Mexican company and that it was leased by Cubana, Cuba's national airline.
