Wilmington firefighters responded to a residential fire on Vandever Avenue and found heavy fire blazing from the second floor on Friday.

Wilmington crews arrived around 4:30 p.m. at the home in the 800 block of Vandever Ave. and called for backup, said Lt. Andrew Cavanaugh of the Wilmington Fire Department.

About 27 emergency personnel responded to the scene. Firefighters searched the home for victims and found fire on the second floor and attic, Cavanaugh said.

All residents escaped the home before personnel arrived. The fire was said to be under control by 4:55 p.m., Cavanaugh said.

The home sustained moderate fire damage and significant smoke damage. Three adults were displaced and put in contact with the American Red Cross for help.
