Cannes 2018: ‘Padmaavat’ actor Jim Sarbh reacts on cracking controversial rape joke with Kangana Ranaut; read what he said

Padmaavat’ actor Jim Sarbh has recently shocked everyone when he cracked a controversial rape joke with actress Kangana Ranaut at Cannes Film Festival 2018. Reportedly, the video of the duo went viral on the social media in which they can be seen laughing a lot after cracking that controversial rape joke. Shockingly, after seeing a video, social media users started criticising the actors for uplifting such a sensitive issue as a joke.

But now on this, Jim Sarbh came in front and gave his opinion over the same. While talking with Bollywood Life, Jim Sarbh said, “First of all, I understand the environment we live in just now, in light of recent events, but more frankly, in light of events going on since the beginning of human consciousness, rape is a deadly serious issue. I treat it as such. The joke that I made is about a Priest blowing a very casual question completely out of proportion, condemning alcohol, prostitutes, and rape all simultaneously. The Punjabi (or whichever ethnicity, depending on the audience) responds to the situation by consenting to it and expressing his sexual proclivities. I personally do not find it to be about a desire to rape, or to inflict sexual violence upon another, but a subversive and comedic response to an extremely volatile sentence.”

On this issue, Jim further added, “I did not intend to hurt anybody, and I certainly do not consider actual sexual or physical violence funny.” Well, after reading Jim’s views on this issue, what do you think about it?
