M’bhanj ZP meet: Vacant doc posts issue raised

The Mayurbhanj Zilla Parishad, under the chairmanship of its president Sujata Murmu held its 5th general meeting here on Thursday. The ZP members expressed their concern over deteriorating healthcare system in the district.

Various issues of public importance, like educational and agricultural problems, were taken up for discussion.

However, the deteriorating healthcare system of the district topped them all. The members expressed serious concern over the fact that about 34 per cent of doctors’ posts in the district and about 61 per cent in the District Headquarters Hospital itself are at present lying vacant.

Mayurbhanj CDMO Dr Sushil Kumar Kar admitted that there are now only 224 doctors in the whole district, whereas the total number of sanctioned posts is 339. Similarly, there are presently only 32 doctors working in the DHH, whereas the total number of posts here is 83, he said.

However, these problems will be sorted out within 2-3 months’ time, he assured at the meeting. Prominent among those who attended the meeting include Mayurbhanj Collector Vineet Bharadwaj, Odisha Assembly Deputy Speaker Sananda Marandi, Rajya Sabha MP Sarojini Hembram, PD DRDA Tushar Kanti Mohanty, DFO Swayam Mallik, ZP vice-president Narendra Sahu, MLAs Bhadav Hansdah, Saiba Sushil Hansdah, Bijay Nayak, and Zilla Parishad Members and Block chairpersons of the district.
