Lightning claims 2 lives, seven suffer injuries

Lightning claimed two lives while seven people suffered injuries in two incidents at Chas in Bokaro district on Wednesday. The condition of the injured is stable, hospital authorities said.

The deceased were identified as Chandan Rajwar (22) and Laxmi Devi (25), residents of Kenduadih of Chas. The severely injured are Amit Pramanik, Bijali Devi, Rakesh Mahali, Sonali, Chotu Bauri, Mohit and Shankar rushed to the local hospital where their condition is stable. According to an eyewitness, Laxmi and Chandan both were taking bath in a pond at Kenduadih village suddenly rain and thunderstorm started and lightning struck on them.

“Both died on the spot,” added the eyewitness. While another incident occurred in Bhendro at Kurra in Chas, children are plucking mango in an orchard, abruptly rains start and lightning struck the tree which resulted into the burn and shock injuries to them, said Sanjay Kumar a Zila Parished member. Under Paterwar block, two animals including an ox and one buffalo belong to D Mahato and Rakesh Hembram respectively died after lightning struck on them.  Expressing grief on the incident Jugnu Minz AC Bokaro assured for help in providing Rs 4 lakh compensation to the deceased families under natural calamity.

“An order has been executed to all concerned COs in this connection,” he added.
