KANSAS CITY - The Yankees' traveling party never got off the ground on Wednesday night.
Due to stormy weather, some plane maintenance issues and basically a no-vacancy sign around Washington D.C., the Yankees were forced to spend the night at Dulles Airport following Wednesday’s rainouts at Nationals Park.
The Yankees had been scheduled to fly out to Kansas City at 10 p.m., but they didn’t make it out until Thursday morning. Players and team personnel either spent the night on their docked aircraft or in an airport lounge.
They had originally been due to fly out on Thursday’s off day, but moved up their itinerary when Wednesday’s games were postponed around 3 p.m.
The Yankees will return to Washington on June 18 for the resumption of a suspended game and the make-up of Wednesday’s rainout.
