U'khand sanitation workers end strike

Sanitation workers in ended their 11-day-old strike late last night after some of their demands, including increase in wages, were conceded by Trivendra Singh

He agreed to their demands of Rs 275 as daily wage to safai karamcharis of Swachchata Samitis in and reinstatement of sanitation workers who were ousted from work during the strike, it said.

The meeting came amid growing clamour by the opposition over mounds of uncleared garbage on streets here due to the strike.

Thanking the for conceding their demands, the sangathan ended their strike, the release said.

Sangh and former Safai Karmachari Ayog Bhagwat attended the meeting.

Taking up the issue with K K Paul, on Wednesday sought his intervention to end the strike.
