Flood watch for entire region through Saturday morning | Flood warning for the main-stem Potomac River and much of Southern Maryland *

There is little good news that I can provide in tonight’s update. It’s raining, it has been raining for several days, and it will continue to rain through this weekend. Flood advisories remain active for pretty much the entire Mid-Atlantic as we continue to be stuck in a moisture-rich pattern. Jason has the soggy details should you require them.

Through Tonight: Off-and-on showers will continue to rotate through the area through midnight. Despite the periodic breaks in precipitation, it will remain cool, wet and gloomy. Winds from the east will become a bit gusty overnight (10-20+ mph), and low temperatures will settle in the mid- to upper 50s. Another organized batch of moderate to heavy rain will move through sometime after midnight, lasting until daybreak Saturday.

Tomorrow (Saturday): Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely in the morning hours. At some point in the late morning or early afternoon, a warm front passes through the area, pushing temperatures into the mid-70s. Humidity will also be on the rise, though, with dew point values in the mid-60s. I am thinking that parts of Saturday afternoon may be salvageable, despite the continued chance (60 percent) of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Most of the “organized” rain should eventually lift to the north and east of our area during the afternoon, providing us with a brief window to dry out a bit. Quite mild and humid tomorrow night with lows in the upper 60s under mostly cloudy skies and a 40 percent chance of showers.

Sunday: We may actually see a bit of sunshine Sunday afternoon, although I am feeling less optimistic at that possibility after looking at the latest guidance. At the very least, I think Sunday is our driest day, but not completely devoid of precipitation. It will be borderline hot and humid, with temperatures peaking in the low to mid-80s. Some partial sunshine is a possibility in the afternoon before a cold front eventually moves through the area, increasing the chance of showers and thunderstorms.
