Mentor police arrested a 38-year-old city man who admitted to killing his girlfriend.

According to Mentor police, the department responded to 8347 South Villa Marina Court at 2:27 a.m. May 17 after the man called the department, telling them he had just killed the woman.

The man immediately surrendered to police after they arrived on scene.

Police said the 35-year-old victim — who resided with the suspect — had been assaulted and stabbed with a knife during a domestic disturbance.

The Lake County coroner had the victim taken to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The Lake County Crime Laboratory assisted Mentor police detectives in processing the crime scene.

The suspect is being arraigned at 8 a.m. May 18 in Mentor Municipal Court. The names of the suspect and victim will be released at that time, police said.
