Customers departing Bristol Airport with KLM to Amsterdam and onwards to our worldwide destinations joined in the celebrations at the departure gate with cupcakes and photos with crew.
The Bristol – Amsterdam route was first launched on 16 May 1988 (operating under the Netherlines name between 1998-1991) with Saab 340 aircraft which had the capacity to carry up to 34 passengers. Increased demand on the route saw the introduction of the Fokker, with Bristol seeing their final Fokker operated flight in March 2014.
Today, the route is serviced by new and more efficient Embraer 175 and 190 aircraft, carrying up to 88 and 100 passengers respectively, while using 22% less fuel in comparison to its predecessor.
Bénédicte Duval, General Manager of Air France KLM UK & Ireland commented on the anniversary, “We are delighted to be celebrating 30 years of operation from Bristol Airport and are proud to continue supporting local business and tourism in the region with our four daily services to the Netherlands and beyond.
We have a strong partnership with both the airport and the region, which shows in our performance. Over the past six years we’ve seen passenger numbers increase by 143%, with over 260,000 passengers choosing to fly KLM from Bristol Airport last year alone. Half of those passengers were connecting onto other destinations across our extensive network of 165 worldwide destinations, clearly showing how important global connectivity is for the region.”
Nigel Scott, Business Development Director, Bristol Airport said: “This is a significant milestone in the long partnership between KLM and Bristol Airport. With four departures a day, KLM offers flexible options for passengers from the South West, whether flying to Amsterdam for business or leisure, or connecting to onward destinations across the world. But it is not all one-way traffic – these frequent daily flights and connections also bring thousands of overseas visitors to our region every year.”
Today, there are currently 26 departures a week from Bristol Airport to Amsterdam, with our passengers top long haul connections being Beijing, Hong Kong and Johannesburg. The top European destinations are Budapest, Bremen and Copenhagen.
KLM offers online check-in, allocated seating and complimentary in-flight drinks and snacks on all flights.
Flights between Bristol and Amsterdam start from £78 economy return including taxes and charges.
