Counting of votes underway for Panchayat polls in West Bengal |

In West Bengal, Counting of votes is underway for zilla parishads, panchayat samitis, and gram panchayat elections.
The process began at 8 AM amidst tight security. Ruling Trinamool Congress has bagged 850 Gram Panchayat seats while BJP has won in 99 seats. The left leaning CPI-M has won 26 seats.
After the first three hours of counting, the TMC was leading in 2,601 gram panchayat seats, followed by BJP in 196 seats and CPI-M leading in 149 seats.
TMC has taken major lead of 663 seats in South 24 Parganas and has won the highest 105 seats from the district. In North 24 Parganas, the party is leading with 283 seats and has won 66 seats. In East Midnapore, it is leading in 101 seats.
Counting began with 31,802 seats of the Gram Panchayat which will be followed by 6,123 seats of Panchayat summit and will finally end with 621 Zilla parishad constituencies. A three-tier security arrangement has been made to prevent any untoward incident during the process.
The panchayat elections were held on Monday. Repolling was done yesterday on 572 polling booths after the complaints of false voting and booth rigging.
