The famous, gigantic horses are on the grounds at Pimlico Race Course to take part in Preakness week. Because of the heavy rain this week, there is a chance the big guys will have to stay in the barn. That’s because the wagon they pull would sink in the slop. Be too bad if they don’t make an appearance. Cool horses (Tim Wilkin/Times Union)

BALTIMORE – It was another wet and rainy day Thursday at Pimlico Race Course, home of Saturday's 143rd running of the Preakness Stakes. And it's going to stay rainy.

There are already between two and three inches of rain on the ground and, before the Preakness is run Saturday evening, an additional two to four inches are expected to fall.

Despite the soggy conditions, Preakness week went on as scheduled. There was a nine-race card that went off and the Preakness horses went through their pre-race exercises on Thursday morning.

And, of course, there was the annual appearance of the world famous Budweiser Clydesdales.

The gigantic horses, who make the Preakness every year, were in their own barns just off the Stakes Barn that houses the Preakness horses.

The Clydesdales gave the Preakness horses a run for their money as they had maybe just as many curiosity seekers scurrying about just to get a look at them.
