Cancel management quota mop-up counselling, AIADMK urges L-G

Wants Bedi to ensure those seats are allotted to U.T. students

The AIADMK has urged Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi to cancel the mop-up counselling held for management quota seats and conduct fresh counselling by giving preference to students from the Union Territory of Puducherry.

In a memorandum submitted to Ms. Bedi, AIADMK Legislature party leader A. Anbalagan said that while the deemed universities across the country did not surrender any seats under the government quota, the Puducherry Government had managed in getting seats from deemed universities in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses under the government quota last year.

This year the government failed to get even one seat for students from Puducherry from any of the four deemed universities. All these seats had been allotted to students from other States. The students from Puducherry, who had cleared the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) were ready to pay ₹20.34 lakh as prescribed by the Fee Committee.

‘Centac violated GO’

However, Centac decided to fill these seats on the basis of all India merit which would be to the disadvantage of students from Puducherry. This was against the Government Order of April 4.

He said the Manakula Vinayagar Medical College was allowed to admit students from the All India merit even during the first round of counselling. This had been opposed by two other private medical colleges.

The government should make necessary changes in the Government Order to ensure that students from Puducherry got the benefit. The counselling held for management quota seats in Manakula Vinayagar Medical College should be cancelled and the seats should be allotted to students from the Union Territory of Puducherry.
