At the backdrop of Supreme Court asking six former Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh to vacate their bungalows senior Samajwadi Party leader and former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence on Wednesday.

The two had a meeting for over half an hour. What conspired between the two is not made public but sources said that the topic of discussion was Supreme Court order where former Chief Ministers have been asked to vacate their bungalows.

Sources vouch that Mulayam might had suggested some way out.

The six former CMs who are on firing line are: Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Rajnath Singh, kalian Singh, ND Tiwari and Mayawati. Another former CM Ram Naresh Yadav too was asked to vacate bungalow but his family had vacated the same after his death.

A senior official told The Pioneer that Government has taken legal opinion on this issue as Supreme Court, in its order of May 7, had asked the Estate Department to get the bungalow vacated within 15 days.  “Though notices have been served to the former CMs to vacate bungalows but efforts are on to find a way out,” the official said.

The Supreme Court had issued the notice on the petition of retired IAS officer S.N. Shukla who had challenged the Allahabad High Court order giving reprieve to former CMs . The petition was filed on 2004.

Shukla told this reporter that probably the government is left with no other option other than asking former CMs to vacate the Bungalows.  “The Government has 15 days to comply with the order. If the government fails to do so, I will file contempt of court,” he said.
