Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities to help students get two credits

College students have been asked to sign up for summer internship programmes for various Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities. They will get two credits for this internship.

The Department of Collegiate Education has directed all affiliated degree colleges to ensure that students register for the programme between May and July for a duration of 100 hours. Students who register under the programme must visit and stay in a village, and take part in certain specified activities.

This initiative was taken at a meeting convened by the University Grants Commission (UGC) where they decided to place Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities like other electives under the Choice Based Credit System.

According to the instructions, the purpose of the summer internship is not just to participate in cleanliness programmes in villages, but also to help develop sustainable cleanliness and sanitation activities under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

“These efforts are expected to provide a great learning experience in the Indian context to students across the country, and also help in improving the overall quality of education,” the circular stated.
