Rain, winds disrupt metro rail services

Trains stalled to ensure safety of passengers, say authorities

For the second time this month, there was disruption of Hyderabad Metro Rail services on account of heavy rain, strong winds and also poor visibility, for about 50 minutes between 4.30 p.m. and 5.20 p.m.

L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) authorities informed that due to the wind speeds of upto 72 mph, the train services were affected to ensure safety of passengers. The normal services were resumed immediately from 5.20 p.m. onwards. Earlier this month, there was disruption between 4.53 p.m. and 5.19 p.m. between Nagole and Ameerpet when an advertisement flexi fell on the overhead power lines due to the strong winds.

In a separate development, metro rail authorities stated that the ‘rent-a-scooter’ at ₹4 a kilometre has been made available at Nagole, Parade Ground, Begumpet along with Miyapur now. Two helmets will be provided with the bike at no extra cost for them or for the fuel expenses.

However, driving licences and Aadhaar cards will have to be furnished to hire them. The service was started at Miyapur three months ago. Rental bicycles are also available at Miyapur, JNTU, KPHB, Kukatpally, Begumpet, Rasoolpura, Prakash Nagar and Paradise.

Metro Rail authorities have also announced that complimentary copies of newspapers have been made available at Miyapur, JNTU, KPHB, Kukatpally, Ameerpet, Begumpet, Secunderabad, Uppal and Nagole stations.

HMR had already increased the frequency of trains every seven minutes and eight minutes, respectively, between Miyapur-Ameerpet and Nagole-Ameerpet during peak hours between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. plus 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Besides, trains are running till 12.30 a.m. during IPL matches from Uppal towards Miyapur and Nagole stations.
