These engravings carved on the stems of the plants are in foreign languages.

The bamboo grove is based on the western outskirts of Japan’s ancient capital of Kyoto that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is among the most photographed locations of the city.

Such an irresponsible behavior might endanger other trees inside the grove as mentioned by Mr. Takayuki Suzuki who is the manager of the bamboo forest. He mentioned this to the local news media and added that he is feeling sorrowful due to such irresponsible action of tourists.

The city of Kyoto that owns the plants said that the number visitors here have risen rapidly since April.

One of the city officials have said that visitors might have carved their names and initials to commemorate their trips but then such a behavior is certainly not acceptable as it is likely to disappoint other tourists who are keen to enjoy the scenery of the forests.

There were 10.5 million visitors between January to April this year,  marking an increase of 15.4% over the same period last year. Koreans accounted for the most number of arrivals, followed by Chinese and Taiwanese. The JTB also said that the number of visitors broke the 10 million mark on April 25, 18 days earlier than last year.

Visitor arrival records have been smashed annually as Japan pulls out all stops to woo foreign tourists as a driver of economic growth.
