Decision expected in trial Halifax taxi driver charged with sexual assault

A judge is expected to deliver her decision today in the case of a Halifax taxi driver accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger.

Seyed Mirsaeid-Ghazi is facing one charge of sexual assault in relation to an alleged incident in October 2015.

The Crown alleges Mirsaeid-Ghazi rubbed the young woman’s thigh and touched her breast in the front seat of his cab after picking her up in the area of Windsor and Allan streets.

Prosecutor Josie McKinney argued to Justice Ann Smith that the Crown had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, saying the testimony of other witnesses corroborated her story.

Defence lawyer Luke Craggs disputed the allegations, saying the woman attached herself to him when she got in the cab, prompting him to push her off.

Craggs said when they arrived at her apartment, the woman had no money and he told her to leave and never call him again.
