Four held for cricket betting

A 32-year-old grocer and three others were arrested by the city police on charge of involvement in cricket betting.

The Commissioner’s Task Force (Central Zone) sleuths raided a house and a chemist in Shahinayathgunj and Saifabad respectively and seized ₹84,000, five mobile phones and TV from their possession.

In the first case, the team raided Manoj Bathi’s house in Begumbazaar and caught him while accepting cricket betting money from punters directly and indirectly on IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday.

The police also arrested Manoj’s friend Radha Shyam Rathi (33), a dry fruits merchant and a resident of Begumbazaar. They recovered ₹76,000, two mobile phones and TV from their possession.

In another case, the Task Force team led by inspector S. Srinivasa Rao raided a chemist in Saifabad and apprehended Vinit Mantri (25), owner of the store and his friend J. Arun Kumar (32), a resident of Anand Galli. They seized ₹7,500 and three mobile phones from their possession.

The accused along with seized property were handed over to the Shahinayathgunj and Saifabad Police Station for further action.
