NZ First Dates: Couple's 'friendship-only' policy

Shyniese and Zach might have snuck a kiss in an elevator, but now they are simply friends.
Blind dates can be hit - or miss. And on First Dates New Zealand, the whole thing is filmed for the audience at home.
Each week, we will talk to one couple about what they were really thinking during their date. Here's what happened between Zach and Shyniese.
Name: Zach Judge
Age: 25
Job: POS/Storeline Specialist.
I hoped my date would be... funny, smart, beautiful and crazy charismatic – like I consider myself to be (the funny part, anyway).

When I saw her, I thought… after a few drinks she might look alright... haha, nah. I thought she looked absolutely stunning and talking to her for the first time I could tell she had an amazing personality to top it off - couldn't have asked for a better date to do something like that with.

"Somehow I managed to get chocolate on my forehead which she pointed out during the date," says Zach.
We laughed about… pretty much everything really. Somehow I managed to get chocolate on my forehead which she pointed out during the date. I thought it was just a little bit but I somehow managed to get it all over myself!
I was surprised by... how much we had in common. Like seriously, I knew they were trying to set us up with someone we'd get along with but somehow they found the other me with boobs (well, bigger).
She probably thought I was… mentality unstable. I try to make jokes and often make myself the joke, but I think people often take that as me being dumb, so I hope she recognises genius when it's staring her in the face…wiping chocolate off his 300 IQ brain holder...
The best part of the date was… I don't think you can really put something like that down to a certain moment, but just to answer the question I really enjoyed just s...-talking with her and just our constant chat about the food.
The worst part of the date was… definitely the initial greeting. I practiced all week with one of my mates doing the handshake-into-the kiss-on-the-cheek right. But as I went in for the handshake, she got her arms out ready for a hug! Was just so awkward. I think that was the moment that just set me into panic mode. Overall, I think our date went really well, but I think if that never happened I would have done a lot better.
I would have liked to... show a bit of my personality a bit more. I think it's quite hard in an environment like that to completely showcase yourself and who you are. I mean it's definitely true when they say you forget about the cameras, but you're still very much aware of what's going on around you. Being on a first date makes you think twice about saying things where usually I would just blurt out without thinking.
Did you kiss? I don't know if I'm allowed to answer this, but I did have a very enjoyable elevator ride later that night.
Will you see her again? Yeah I plan on going out drinking with her eventually. We both have our own lives, in different cities, but I would say yes, we will.

Shyniese says she and Zach were so similar - right down to their career goals.
Name: Shyniese Marie de la Mare

Job: Clinique consultant
I hoped my date would be... FUNNY! And obviously handsome, of course. And he turned out to be just that. I was hoping he would be confident and easy to chat with, as I know I can tend to take over and be the loud one.
When I saw him, I thought... this is going to be a piece of cake. I got a good vibe off him straight away, and was instantly put at ease. It also wasn't hard to notice his big goofy smile and I knew straight away that this date was going to be a good time.
We laughed about... Everything! I don't think there was a point where we weren't laughing? He is the boy version of me it was so weird. We had the same sense of humour and laughed at the same stupid stuff throughout the whole night. I mean, I even laughed to the point where I had food fall out of my mouth not once but TWICE.
I was surprised... to hear that he was interested in joining the police - so am I! I was also surprised when he told me he was a huge Game Of Thrones fan too as that show is my jam. His tattoo of GoT definitely earned him brownie points.
He probably thought I was… Hilarious. I mean, who doesn't? I think my loud and confident personality would have also been hard-to-miss but good, because it kept our conversations flowing with no awkwardness at all, which I think he liked.
The best part of the date was… definitely when I noticed Zach had chocolate pudding on his forehead! How he managed to get that up there who knows but man I almost needed a change of undies after noticing that. Highlight of the date for sure!
The worst part was… the oyster shot hands down! One of the most disgusting things I have ever swallowed. Trying to look attractive in front of my date while dry retching at a slimy snot-like-texture substance sliding down my throat is almost impossible. Table manners were on point that night I must say.
I would have liked to… have had more shots! (Just kidding! Any more and the waitress would of been carrying me out the door). It would have to be more time on the date, if I'm honest! It went so well and it was just a fun night. Felt like I had known him for ages. He did give me a present at the end of our date which was a free McDonald's McFlurry voucher to redeem, so I wish I had of brought along a gift for him in return.
Did you kiss? Hmmmmmm...that was an awfully long elevator ride we had...
Will you see them again? 100 per cent yes, yes, yes. Zach and I have planned to catch up soon and hit the town together. We Snapchat all the time, and we've definitely become good mates over this. He finally gave up waiting for me though, so he's accepted our friendship-only policy.
