Swachh Survekshan 2018: Welcome to spick and span Indore

Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad was adjudged the "fastest mover big city" in this survey.

NEW DELHI The results of Swachh Survekshan 2018 are out and Indore in Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the cleanest city, while Jharkhand has added feather in the cap by becoming best-performing state in terms of cleanliness in the results announced on Wednesday by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The official ceremony to present the awards is likely to be held in Delhi on May 18.

Chandigarh has been declared the third cleanest city in the country. The city, which had dropped from the second spot to 11th last year, is just behind Indore and Bhopal this year.

Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad was adjudged the “fastest mover big city” in this survey.

In the category of cities with less than 0.1 million population, the cleanest city was Bhadson (Punjab) in the north zone, Bundu (Jharkhand) in the east zone, Kakching (Manipur) in the north east zone, Siddipet (Telangana) in the south zone, and Panchgani (Maharashtra) in the west zone.

This time, the Union Ministry of Urban Development survey was conducted in 4,200 cities, covering a population of 40 crore. A three-member team from Quality Council of India (QCI) completed the survey in the city in the first week of February as part of the assessment for the Swachh Survekshan-2018 rankings. As part of their visit, the team inspected the progress of various development activities being conducted by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Swachh Survekshan is a survey to check the progress and impact of the BJP government’s flagship programme Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched in 2014. It aims to bring a spirit of competition among cities.
