INDIANAPOLIS (PRWEB) May 17, 2018
The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) will host Lifestyle Medicine 2018, October 21-24 at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis, IN, with the theme “Real Health Care Reform.” The organization’s annual CME-accredited conference is the nation’s premier medical education event focused on lifestyle as a therapeutic intervention to rein in the chronic disease that’s driving 80% or more of all health care spending. The event will deliver impressive keynotes, evidence-based educational sessions, research posters, and ample networking activities.
Keynote speakers include Indiana’s own U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, MD, MPH, and Eskenazi Health’s CEO Lisa Harris, MD, joined by sleep expert Param Dedhia, MD; Founder and CEO of the Center for Mind Body Medicine Jim Gordon, MD; epigenetics expert Kent Thornburg, PhD; and best-selling authors and experts on Lifestyle Medicine treatment for preventing and treating chronic conditions such as Alzheimer’s, type 2 diabetes and heart disease, Drs. Dale Bredesen and Garth Davis. A “Legends Panel” featuring Lifestyle Medicine luminaries Drs. Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, and T. Colin Campbell will be moderated by Dr. Michael Greger.
Speakers and workshops will focus on the clinical practice of lifestyle in medicine, and examples that back the growing evidence that Lifestyle Medicine can redefine and transform health care.
“Putting health back into health care is our mission, with a lifestyle medicine-first approach,” said ACLM President George Guthrie, MD, MPH, FACLM. “Our goal as health care professionals should be to decrease the demand for health care. Lifestyle medicine is the key to that, and this conference is the convergence of the people, the science and the tools to create this paradigm change that represents real health care reform.”
“This year’s keynote speakers will highlight the power of Lifestyle Medicine to lower costs, improve outcomes and enhance well-being—all the goal of health care reform—by treating the cause of chronic disease,” said Planning Committee Chair Sal Lacagnina, DO, System Medical Director of Wellness and Employee Health for Lee Health. “We’ll also feature exceptional presentations about how to make lifestyle medicine a feasible and practical clinical business model, as well as update attendees about the latest scientific evidence. We’ll also have time for physical activity, enjoy wonderful plant-based food, and be re-invigorated as a community to the reason we all wanted to be in health care in the first place.”
Poster presentations will be showcased as part of the conference.
Lifestyle Medicine 2018 kicks off with pre-conference workshops on Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21, with an official start Sunday evening October 21, concluding Wednesday, October 24, followed by post-conference workshops.
The American Board of Lifestyle Medicine will host the second annual Lifestyle Medicine certification exam on Thursday, October 25, with registration now live at http://www.ablm.co/.

About the American College of Lifestyle Medicine: ACLM is the professional medical association for those dedicated to the advancement and clinical practice of Lifestyle Medicine as the foundation of a transformed and sustainable health care system. Lifestyle Medicine involves the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic approaches, such as a predominantly whole food, plant-based diet, regular physical activity, adequate sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substance use, and other non-drug modalities, to prevent, treat, and, oftentimes, reverse the lifestyle-related, chronic disease that's all too prevalent.
More than a professional association, ACLM is a galvanizing force for change. ACLM addresses the need for quality education and certification, supporting its members in their individual practices and in their collective desire to domestically and globally promote Lifestyle Medicine as the first treatment option, as opposed to a first option of treating symptoms and consequences with expensive, ever increasing quantities of pills and procedures. ACLM members are united in their desire to identify and eradicate the cause of disease. Join today at http://www.LifestyleMedicine.org/
