Stalin demands independent CMB

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday urged the State government to prevail upon the Centre and the Supreme Court to constitute an independent Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

“A CMB without independent powers will be like a skeleton or an arrow without a nock. It will be a blunder and a historical curse,” Mr. Stalin said in a statement.

He said the government should stop playing second fiddle to the Centre and assign senior advocates to represent Tamil Nadu in the Supreme Court.

“The BJP government should also include an autonomous CMB in the draft to be filed in the Supreme Court,” he said, recalling the final order of the Cauvery Tribunal that “the mechanism shall have to be independent in character.”

Mr. Stalin said the tribunal was very clear about the mechanism as it had recommended the CMB to be on the lines of the Bhakra Beas Management Board.
