A 6-month-old girl died after being left inside a hot car for about six hours in Shreveport, police said.

The girl was left in the car from around 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. or a little later on Tuesday in the 6700 block of Woolworth Road, said Cpl. Marcus Hines, public information officer for the Shreveport Police Department.

The girl was Addyson Blackburn, according to the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office. The coroner did not disclose her parents' names. It gave her age as just shy of 7 months.

It appears the father was heading to work and forgot that his daughter was in the back seat, Hines said, although police still were investigating.

The high temperature Tuesday was 91 degrees, at just after 3 p.m. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration reports that an outside temperature in the mid-60s can cause a vehicle’s inside temperature to rise above 110 degrees. The temperature inside of your car can rise almost 20 degrees within the first 10 minutes.

Heat stroke begins when the body reaches a core temperature of 104 degrees. Core body temperature near 107 degrees is lethal. Children overheat up to five times faster than adults, according to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration.

The girl was taken to the Willis-Knighton South hospital. It is unclear if she died in the car or at the hospital.

An autopsy will be performed, according to the coroner's office.

No charges had been filed.
