Probes underway in Varanasi flyover accident case |
In Uttar Pradesh, all three probes initiated by the State Government and Varanasi District Magistrate to inquire into the under-construction flyover collapse near Varanasi Cant Railway station are underway.
Additional District Magistrate Varanasi Manoj Kumar Rai conducting magisterial probe has invited evidences and statements from all concerned today. He has been asked to submit his report within three days. Mr Rai is being assisted by the senior Public Works Department PWD engineers.
The accident had claimed 18 lives and left 12 others injured. Although the local administration has confirmed only 15 deaths. Injured are admitted to different hospitals in Varanasi.
Our correspondent reports that a high power probe committee set up by the Chief Minister is likely to submit its report by this evening.
The Committee is headed by the Agricultural Production Commissioner RP Singh. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has also set up a three-member high power technical committee under PWD Chief Engineer, YK Gupta to ascertain technical reasons behind the accident. It has been asked to file its report within 15 days.
District police Chief Varanasi has filed a report at Sigra police station against Bridge Corporation for unintentional murder in view of the accident. Four officers of the Corporation including Chief Project Manager SC Tiwari have already been suspended for their alleged lapses.
Meanwhile, most of the deceased have been identified and their next kin have been provided financial assistance of five Lakhs rupees announced by the Chief Minister.
