Kailash Sodha of Rajasthan’s Makrana probably did not read the sub-text of stunts people perform with animals carefully: Don’t try these at home.

On Wednesday, when Sodha came across a snake, he asked his friends to make a video of him playing with the reptile, saying that he will post the video on YouTube.

Sodha, his friends said, was trying to show that he did not fear snakes. But the stunt went awry when the reptile bit him on his lips, landing him in a hospital.

Thankfully, the snake was non-venomous and Sodha, is back home and alive.

“There was a snake and people around me said catch it. I caught it by its head and put it around my neck, but when I was taking it away to release it, the snake bit my lips,” Sodha said.

A number of videos clips of the act are circulating on social media.

In one of the video clip, Sodha is seen following a snake and then grabbing it by its head as a small crowd of onlookers around him, breaks into a cheer.

People are heard telling Sodha something in local dialect but it is unclear.

Sodha, wearing a faded pair of jeans and t-shirt, a handkerchief tied around his head like a bandana, is seen walking with the snake around his neck and the reptile’s mouth pinched between his index finger and thumb.

In one of the videos, Sodha is seen bringing the snake’s mouth near his and that’s when the reptile bit him.

Sodha’s father, Babulal blames the onlookers for pushing him to perform the stunt. “They goaded him to catch it and he got tempted,” Babulal said at a hospital in Ajmer where his son was being treated.

Though there is very little information available about the type of snake that bit Sodha, but doctors treating him said from the injury, it is clear that it was a non-venomous snake.
