Federal front will be a force from inception: KCR

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the federal front comprising TRS and other like-minded parties would be a huge political force at the inception stage itself and would be agenda-driven.

Its agenda would be the main weapon of the front which would crystalise by 2019 elections, Mr. Rao told a media conference here on Wednesday night.

Reacting to political developments in Karnataka, Mr. Rao said the fractured verdict that he predicted in the State was exposed by the election results. The BJP and Congress were craving towards the JD (S).

The Trinamool Congress president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee even asked the former Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, to ensure that the Congress joined the proposed front.

He expected a similar situation at the national level in the next elections with major parties drawn towards the front. It would not be a mere alignment of parties, but would have a political goal to leverage country’s economy.

Structural changes

He added that the country needed structural changes in the political system which the front aimed to achieve. For instance, the BJP-led NDA government failed to push through Bills in the Parliament despite getting a popular mandate in 2014 as it did not have majority in Rajya Sabha. These are the anomolies in the political system that needed to be rectified.

Mr. Rao counselled patience as the goal could not be achieved in haste. Since the results that would be achieved by the front matters the most, he said the path had to be treaded cautiously.

He said he would shortly meet Odisha and Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers Naveen Patnaik and N. Chandrababu Naidu respectively to seek their support for the front.
