Legs for daze

Be cool for your own Cannes with a renewed love for pantsuits, catsuits and jumpsuits

Living vicariously through the star-studded lives of everyone at Cannes — including those of the people who flay out Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s train — I couldn’t help salivating over the parade of pantsuits that have been rocked really well.

My first glimpse was one of Deepika Padukone in a vibrant Joker-purple pantsuit by MAO. The plunge blazer gave it a dominant and feminine touch, paired well with her statement studs and rings. As someone who’s 5 foot 4 inches, I strive for that taller-than-in-reality look.

Aishwarya, too, rocked a classic black Armani pantsuit with strappy Jimmy Choos. The ankle length juxtaposed with the oversized shoulder fitting and the straight lines offered up mod notes to an otherwise straight forward ensemble.

Resembling a chic space-cowboy was Kangana Ranaut, whose dazzling Nedo By Nedret Taciroglu catsuit had some eyebrows raised. Now she’s no taller than I am, so this was the spur I needed to head to the online abysses of shopping heaven and invest in a couple.

So how did Kangana own this outfit? The key is to have the hem of the trousers in complete parallel with the floor for that larger-than-life look. That, and her hair set in chin-length wild curls around her face elevated her a little more.

Affordable options start from ₹2000, not bad for a whole ensemble. How one styles it is completely individual, whether it’s with a pair of chunky heels or simple strappy flats — and don’t let height be an issue!
