Over 8,500 people were without power as of 7:15 a.m. in the Albany area after a Menands substation failed early Wednesday morning.

Watervliet police said in a Facebook post that the substation went down.

The failure knocked out power to parts of Watervliet, Menands, Green Island, Colonie, Albany and Troy.

The power is expected to be restored within two to three hours, according to the National Grid outage map.

A National Grid spokesperson was not available immediately.
