Six Maoists held in Charla mandal

As many as six militia members of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), wanted in six cases of violence, including the recent blasting of culvert at Satyanarayanapuram on Bhadrachalam-Chandrupatla State highway, were arrested by the police in Charla mandal on Tuesday evening, the police said.

They were allegedly involved in the murder of one Sodi Prasad of Pedamidisileru in Bhadrachalam Agency in 2017 and Irpa Laxman, a villager of China Utlapally in the adjoining Chhattisgarh, in March this year.

Area domination operation

Addressing a press conference at Charla on Wednesday, Circle Inspector of Police T. Satyanarayana said the six Maoist militia members were apprehended by the police during a joint area domination operation along with CRPF personnel in the hillocks on the outskirts of Anjanapuram on Tuesday evening.

A steel box weighing about five kg and a bundle of cardex wire were recovered from them. All of them hail from Ramachandrapuram of Kurnapally Gram Panchayat in Charla mandal.

They were allegedly involved in planting of land mines on the outskirts of Tippapuram along the road leading to Chhattisgarh targeting police personnel.

They had deputed a person from Kistarampadu to plant a pressure cooker bomb in Charla town five days ago, he said.

Mr. Satyanarayana said the arrested militia members were also involved in blasting a low-level bridge across Paidivagu in Charla mandal last month.
