COLOMBO (News 1st) – Out of many decisions that were taken at the meeting of Cabinet of Ministers held yesterday here are some that caught our attention.

SAITM student receive a solution

A decision was reached to allow SAITM students who registered between 15th September 2009 and 15th May 2017 be granted admission to Sri John Kothalawala Defense University in order to complete their studies.

Transfer lands owned by the Land Reforms Commission to external individuals and institutions on a lease basis

It was decided to authorize the Minister in charge of the Land Reforms Commission to discard lands to the selected beneficiaries recommended by senior officials in the extent of maximum 5 acres in accordance with the provisions of Land Transfer Act.

Loans under Concessionary Interest rate for the damages of business properties caused by the conflicts in Kandy District

As per proposed by Laxman Kirella, Minister of Public Enterprises Kandy City Development, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the “Athwela Loan scheme”. It was stated that the maximum amount of the loan is one million. The loan will be given upon 2% concessionary interest rate.

 

Appointing new members for the Committee to Prevent money laundering and Terrorism Financing

Minister of Finance and Mass Media, Mangala Samaraweera proposed that since financial crimes in Sri Lanka has increased it will be a great advantage if the National Coordinating Committee for Preventing Money Laundering and Terrorism Funding is to widen. The proposal was approved by the Cabinet of ministers and Commissioner General of the Department of Inland Revenue, Commissioner General of the Department of Exercise, Director General of Bribery Commission and representatives of Ministry of Defense and Ministry of National Policies and Economic affairs, will be appointed as members of the committee in this purpose.
