Mumbai: A bus driver was injured after two tourist buses collided with each other at Ghodbunder road in Thane (West) on Tuesday morning. The mishap occurred at 9:30 am on Tuesday at Ghodbunder road near Shankar Mandir at Gaimukh area. An overspeeding tourist bus of Ramana Travels was ferrying 35 people from Borivali to Thane rammed into another tourist bus from behind.
The passengers escaped unhurt while the driver Bhiku Das (23) was injured in the accident. Das sustained injuries on his legs and was rushed to Kevalya hospital at Ghodbunder road by the police. He is presently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The officials from Kasarwadavli police, Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), Thane and the fire brigade officials rushed to the spot immediately. A rescue vehicle along with an ambulance evacuated Das out of the driver’s cabin since he was stuck inside.
According to Prashant Kale, Assistant Police Inspector, Kasarvadawali police, “Prima facie it appears that the driver Bhiku Das was overspeeding. The medical examination of the driver was conducted at the hospital. He was not under the influence of alcohol. A First Information Report has been registered against Das. No arrest has been made so far.”
According to Santosh Kadam, an official from Regional Disaster Management cell, Thane, “We evacuated the driver Das and the 35 passengers inside the bus. The passengers escaped unhurt.” Ramana Travels bus is owned by Raju Rathod. A FIR has been registered for rash driving or driving on a public way (Section 279), causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety (Section 337) and causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety Section 338 of the Indian Penal Code by the Kasarvadawli police.
