SCHENECTADY — Kiante Jones, a veteran educator, has been named the new principal of Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons School in Schenectady.

Jones will start his job leading the sixth- to 12th-grade school on July 1.

"I am so pleased that we have found such an extraordinary educator, leader and model of the faith," said Bishop Edward Scharfenberger.

Jones is currently the assistant principal at Mater Christi School in Albany. He previously has held that position at South Middle School in Newburgh and Mont Pleasant Middle School in Schenectady, where he also served as principal. As well, he has worked as a teacher and administrator in the Troy and Hoosick Falls public school districts.

He said in a statement that one of the benefits of being principal at the school is being able to share his faith with the school community "while nurturing the spiritual and moral development of students."

Jones is studying for his doctorate in Educational Administration and Policy Studies at the University at Albany.

He worships at All Saints Parish in Albany, where he lives with his wife and four children.

Jones replaces Peter Fusco, who led the school from 2014 until 2018.

For the past four months, Assistant Principal Pat Moran and teacher Ritch Harrigan have served as interim principal and interim assistant principal, respectively.
