‘Centre will ensure T.N. gets its share of Cauvery water’

Minister says the implementing authority should have teeth

The Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre will ensure that Tamil Nadu got its due share of Cauvery water, Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan said here on Tuesday.

Addressing mediapersons, Mr. Radhakrishnan said the Centre felt that the implementing authority for the sharing of Cauvery water should not be a mute spectator, but one that executes decisions. The authority would comprise representatives of the four riparian States, besides Central government officials. The Centre's decision would be final, in case of any dispute or non-cooperation by the States.

Cadre of the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party would embark on a bicycle yatra from Wednesday, emphasising the rights of the farmers of the Cauvery delta region.

The 24-day yatra, which would start from the Grand Anicut, would cover as many constituencies in the delta region, and was aimed at “exposing those parties which were fooling the farmers” and retrieving the rights of the farmers of the Cauvery delta region, the Minister said.
