Ford to resume F-150, Super Duty production

Ford Motor Co. will resume production of its best-selling F-150 pickup truck at its Dearborn, Mich., plant on Friday, and its Super Duty pickup truck at its Kentucky truck plant and F-150 production in the Kansas City, Mo., factory on Monday, the company said late Wednesday. Ford halted the pickup trucks' production last week after a May 2 fire ravaged a supplier's plant in Michigan. Ford assembled a team of global experts "to quickly refurbish and relocate tooling" so the factory could resume making the parts again, the company said. "While the situation remains extremely dynamic, our teams are focused on returning our plants to full production as fast as possible," Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of global operations, said in a statement. "The ramp-up time to full production is improving every day." Ford reaffirmed its guidance of adjusted earnings between $1.45 a share and $1.70 a share for the year, and said it expects second-quarter earnings to decrease by 12 cents to 14 cents in the second quarter due to lost production. Ford shares were flat in late trading after ending the regular session up 1.6%.

Ford's stock falls after analyst downgrade on concerns over revenue drivers

Shares of Ford Motor Co. fell 0.5% in premarket trade Tuesday, after the automaker was downgraded at Piper Jaffray, which cited concerns over Ford's ability to find compelling revenue drivers to offset secular threats. Analyst Alexander Potter cut his rating to neutral from overweight, and his stock price target to $12 from $14. Potter said he appreciates Ford's focus on "fitness," and its newfound willingness to cut less profitable platforms, which refers to the company's announcement last month to stop making sedans. "But with U.S. vehicle sales slowly eroding, we think investors are looking for more fundamental changes from Ford--and from automotive companies in general," Potter wrote in a note to clients. "Ford may yet capture its share of the $1+ trillion market for autonomous rides, but in our view, the company isn't a leader in this market, at least not yet." The stock has gained 3.9% over the past three months through Monday, while rival General Motors Co. shares have dropped 12.5% and the S&P 500 has lost less than 0.1%.

Ford to resume F-150 pickup production: report

Ford Motor Co. will resume production of its best-selling F-150 pickup trucks at its Dearborn, Mich., and Kansas City, Mo., plants next Friday, according to a Reuters report that cited one source familiar with the matter. Ford late Wednesday halted production of its F Series trucks as it ran out of parts after a fire damaged a supplier's plant in Michigan. Ford kept its 2018 guidance intact, however, saying it had "strong inventories" of the trucks. Shares of Ford ended the regular trading day down 0.2%.

Trump meeting with automaker executives on fuel standards

Executives including General Motors CEO Mary Barra and Ford CEO James Hackett are meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss the forthcoming ruling on fuel economy and emission standards. "The President will hear from the automaker CEOs about the impact of the rulemaking on the auto industry and their efforts to negotiate a 'National Program' with the state of California," according to Lindsay Walters, White House deputy press secretary. The administration has proposed freezing gas-mileage rules at close to 39 miles per gallon. The meeting is the first joint trip by carmakers to the White House since January 2017, according to the Detroit News.

Ford to recover from halted F-series production: Moody's

Ford Motor Co. is likely to recover from the suspended production of its F-150 and Super Duty pickup trucks by the end of the year, Bruce Clark, a senior vice president at Moody's Investors Service, said in a statement. "Although near-term profits will weaken due to the shutdown, current inventory levels of the two vehicles, combined with accelerated production after facilities come back online, should make up for any initial shortfall," he said. Interruptions due to fires and other mishaps have happened in the automotive supply sector, but car makers and suppliers "have a track record of rebounding from such events," he said. Ford late Wednesday announced it was halting its F Series production at a couple of plants as it largely ran out of parts after a fire ravaged a supplier's plant last week. Ford shares have gained 0.7% in the past 12 months, versus losses for rival U.S. car makers General Motors Co. and Tesla Inc. and 13% gains for the S&P 500 index.

Ford halts F-series pickup production after fire, keeps guidance intact

Ford Motor Co. has halted production of its best-selling F-series pickup trucks after a fire damaged a supplier's plant in Michigan and caused a shortage of parts for the vehicles, the company said late Wednesday. The production shortage is expected to dent the company's results, but Ford kept intact its guidance of adjusted per-share earnings in the range of $1.45 to $1.70 for 2018. Ford shares were flat in late trading after ending the regular session down 1.9%. "The good news is we have strong inventories of our best-selling F-Series pickups and other vehicles, and customers won't have a problem finding the model they want," Joe Hinrichs, executive vice president and president of global operations, said in a statement. Ford halted the production of F-150 trucks at its Kansas City, Mo., plant and said it will also halt production at its Dearborn, Mich., plant later Wednesday. The production of Ford's F-Series Super Duty is down at its Kentucky Truck Plant, but it is expected to continue at a plant in Ohio. The Wall Street Journal reported late Tuesday that Ford was expected to run out of parts and to halt production. The report, which cited people familiar with the matter, also said Ford was expected to lay off several thousand workers temporarily due to the fire, which last week ravaged the premises of a plant operated by Meridian Lightweight Technologies, owned by China's Wanfeng Auto Holding Group.

April car sales dented by weak demand for sedans

Detroit auto makers on Tuesday reported mixed U.S. auto sales for April as demand for conventional passenger cars, such as sedans, continues to wither. After an unexpectedly strong March, vehicle sales are expected to show a drop in April when more auto makers report later Tuesday, partly because of two fewer selling days than last year.
