Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town have been relegated after being found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, Tendai Ndoro, in the recently completed Absa Premiership season.

The Urban Warriors, who prior to the guilty verdict had finished 15th in the standings, were set to face Black Leopards and Jomo Cosmos in the promotion/relegation playoffs, but will now be replaced by Platinum Stars, who originally finished bottom of the standings, but moved up to 15th after Ajax's demise on Tuesday.

Platinum Stars' rise was as a result of Ajax having to forfeit the points they gained in matches with Dikwena, Polokwane City and SuperSport United.

Those matches will now be recorded as 3-0 defeats.

Ajax were also fined R350 000.

The Urban Warriors have revealed they will fight against their guilty verdict and will appear in court at 10:00 on Wednesday.

"Ajax Cape Town are currently consulting with their legal team regarding William Mokhari SC's arbitration ruling released this morning," the club revealed on Twitter.

"The club is in the process of preparing papers to be filed urgently before the High Court in Johannesburg for the matter to be heard tomorrow morning at 10:00.

"Amongst other issues, the club will seek to interdict the promotion playoffs from commencing on Wednesday 16th May at 15:00.

"This will be sought pending an urgent review of the arbitrators award this morning."

The playoff campaign is due to start on Wednesday with, as it currently stands, Platinum Stars scheduled to play against Black Leopards at 15:00.

It has been reported that the Urban Warriors have left Limpopo, returning to Cape Town, while Stars have travelled to the Thohoyandou Stadium to face the National First Division side.
