BJP's win in K’taka unparalleled, unprecedented: PM Modi

Stating that BJP's win in Karnataka was unparalleled and unprecedented, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that the  BJP will not allow Karnataka's development journey to be trampled upon. The PM said the victory of Karnataka is a fitting reply to those who billed the BJP as a North India party, a party of Hindi speaking region.

Addressing party workers and supporter at the BJP headquarters here after Karnataka poll results, praising party president Amit Shah the Prime Minister  described him as “the person whose tireless work and exceptional strategy has propelled us to one victory after another”.

Modi said People of Karnataka sat through rallies in 40-45 degree weather and pointed out that the language was not an issue when people bless you like this, you get a new energy ."This election affected me too though I have travelled a lot in these States, I was under a little hesitation because I did not know their language. But the people of Karnataka gave me so much love, the language barrier never came in between", he said.

Attacking those for spreading "lies" that the BJP is a party of north India despite it forming governments in non-Hindi speaking States like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Assam among other states, Modi said people of Karnataka have given a befitting reply to those with such a "distorted" mindset.

Without naming the Congress, Modi targeted it, saying a party, which ruled the country for decades, has damaged the Constitution and the country's federal structure by pitting north India against south India and spreading tensions between the Centre and states.

The PM hit out at the Trinamool Congress Government in West Bengal over violence during the  panchayat elections in the state, saying democracy was "murdered" for narrow political interests.

"The way democracy was murdered... From (filing of) nominations to polling, democracy had no place," he said. Modi claimed that efforts were made to ensure that "opposition candidates are unable to file their nominations so that ruling party members are elected unopposed".

"Ballot boxes were found in a pond... Innocent party workers, not only of the BJP but of other parties too, were killed," he said.

Modi told the gathering that once the people of Bengal led the nation, but blood was spilled yesterday to further political interests.  "I don't talk of who wins or loses, but democracy was wounded...

All parties, the civil society and the judiciary will have to play an active role... My concern is democracy, and I am not here to blame any political party," he said.
