Ramzan moon sighted, fasting to begin from today

A spokesperson of Delhi’s Jama Masjid said that the Ramzan moon was sighted tonight and fasting begins on Thursday

Ramzan, the month of fasting in Islam, will begin from Thursday as the moon was sighted on Wednesday.

A spokesperson of Delhi’s Jama Masjid said the moon was sighted.

Muslim holy month of Ramadan will begin in Telangana on Thursday as the moon was sighted on Wednesday, Moon Sighting Committee announced.

Although weather in Hyderabad was cloudy, the committee made the announcement after receipt of information from some parts of Telangana.

Moulana Mufti Khaleel Ahmed announced that Thursday would be the first day of fasting month.

Sirens blared from mosques across Hyderabad to announce sighting of moon.

Arrangements have begun for “namaz-e-taraveeh”, special prayers offered every night throughout the month.

Ramzan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset and join mass prayers at mosques.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramzan.
