Modigliani's nude painting auctioned for over $157 million

A nude 1917 painting by Italian has become the fourth most expensive artwork to be sold at an auction, after it was purchased for a whopping $157.2million.

The painting, titled couche (sur le cote gauche), was sold at a auction in on Monday, reported The Times.

It is the largest masterpiece by the famed

couche, which was painted a century ago, was also purchased for the highest price in history and was the star single lot in the May auction.

Leonardo da Vinci's 'Salvator Mundi' currently holds the record for the most expensive painting ever sold. It was auctioned for $450.3 million in November 2017.
