Volusia County's new chief medical examiner has announced her resignation after a little more than a month on the job.

Sara Zydowicz, who was hired in March after working in a part-time capacity and officially started in her new role in April, submitted a letter Tuesday afternoon to county employees announcing that she's resigning on June 1. No other details were provided in the email and questions to county staff were not immediately answered.

Councilwoman Deb Denys said she'd learned through a phone call with county staff that the resignation was due to a "personal life event" and that the county was in the process of interviewing a replacement.

Zydowicz did not immediately respond to an email or a phone call.
