NEW FAIRFIELD - Police have yet to release the name of a woman who was killed Tuesday when a tree fell on her car.

A toddler who was also in the car survived the accident, authorities said.

Police said the accident occurred on Brush Hill Road as a line of severe thunderstorms rolled through the area. There are some reports that the storm caused a tornado to touch down in the area and some wind gusts were in excess of 70 miles per hour.

Authorities said they had a difficult time accessing the car on Brush Hill Road due to numerous downed trees and wires in the area. The 41-year-old woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had to be extricated from the vehicle. A three-year-old child who was also in the car didn’t appear to be injured but was taken to Danbury Hospital for evaluation.
