Wednesday’s game against Kings XI Punjab was Kieron Pollard’s first after his failure against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1. To the respite of the Mumbai Indians fans, the misfiring batsman finally delivered with a 23-ball 50 to help Mumbai Indians reach 152 for six in 15.3 overs.

Pollard came to Mumbai Indians’ rescue after the side had been reduced to 71 for four with a 65-run partnership with Krunal Pandya. Pollard hit five fours and three sixes in his 50.

Mumbai Indians have been reduced to one defeat away from exit and Pollard knew he was one of the reasons for it. Bought by the franchise for is ability to provide strong finishes to the innings, the strapping batsman from Trinidad has struggled this season. It has cost Mumbai Indians dear, with the team losing most of their close matches.

In his first seven games this season, Pollard’s best effort was 28 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad and cost him a place in the eleven.
